Tuition: UT vs. UWO

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows what the full tuitions (tuition, clinical fees, equipment etc) are for UT and UWO dentistry.

I looked up both of them online (it says 28,000/year) , but when I talked to a UT student, he said that the tuition has been 32,000/year for the past few years! Also, are there any extra costs besides what is quoted online?

Thanks!

However...

Toronto is a much nicer city and 4 years of dental school in a boring city may become overwhelming.

Great city, lots of sites, tons of fun stuff to do. Every weekend is some festival or something another.

Of course the downside to that is that it's awfully tempting to procrastinate your studies away ha ha ... *cries*

Hahaha better to want to procrastinate by going to see the city than by cleaning your room and clipping your nails.

If I want to procrastinate I always find something to do! LOL

From the UT tour, the students said the $32k included all your tools and laundry service and everything.

Well, being a UWO student myself, it is without a doubt cheaper to live in London... But I go home at least once a month, up to 4 times in a month back to the GTA because London, sorta, sucks. But UWO's campus is BEAUTIFUL! Just a trade-off.

You can expect to find a room in London from $300. A bachelor's for like $700ish (but won't be close to campus). I pay $450ish a 2-bdrm apt with a roommate 7 min walk from campus.

Even though tuition fee is slightly higher at UWO, they offer many scholarships and bursaries every year. A friend of mine at UWO dentistry last year has received $13,000 in total($10000bursaries and scholarships). I really hope I can get into Western this year.

aren't the scholarships/bursaries only for a select few? or are there no limits on how many ppl can receive them?

At UWO I believe they give out 4 scholarships each 10k. They are given out to people who take OSAP and it is based on academic merit. So if you get a 95% average you are likely to get one, if you have a 88% not so much.

No, it's based on financial need. They only look at your income and family income. As long as you meet the criteria, you get awarded $10,000 for 4 years ($40,000 in total).

In the email it clearly says -I would copy paste if it wasn't PDF- that the scholarship is based on financial need and academic achievement. If you meet the eligibility for OSOTF then you are qualified for the scholarship.

This would imply that all people who are OSOTF eligible are possible recipients of the scholarship and then they are chosen based on academics -what I was told by admissions-. Bursaries are based on financial need, but a scholarship is a little different. As long as you pass the minimum requirements for funding then you are on the same playing field with all the other students -with the exception of grades-.

When you go to the UWO Office of the Registrar's Website Financial aid section, click on "award search". You can search for all scholarships and bursaries that are being offered. It's called "Schulich Dentistry Admission Bursary: $10,000 for 4 years". As long as you get an acceptance letter from UWO and have zero income, you'll probably receive one. Not many dental schools offer this much of bursary.
