School grading systems?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I read the "Where should I go for undergrad" thread above, and I am wondering about this ....

8. Consider the grading system of each school. Avoid schools that curve grades like you would rotting zombies with bubonic plague and lasers coming out of their eyes. If you are smart enough so that you would be unaffected or even helped by curving, please skip step nine.

#1. How can you find out the grading system for each school?

#2. Anyone know about Waterloo Biomedical Science program....is it easy/hard?

#3. Also, how do ALL students in some programs have high grades? For example I have heard that Macmaster Med Sci students all get into med school, is this a myth?

Thanks! :D

I'll initiate the attack.

So what if Mac Health Sci. students get in meds because of inflated marks?

They end up making the dumbest doctors, get uncompetitive residencies and are scoffed at by their peers secretly. And don't be silly, of course the peers will deny this in public.

stupidity aside, search mattg's post on mac healthsci. he makes inferences and claims with supporting statistics to prove them.

well put. and often scoffed at right to their faces.

example:

me: omg queens life science is so hard. i have five exams this week, a 2 hour lab practical and 3 lab reports due

friend in mac health sci: omg i totally know what you mean. i have to make a poster board on biology and i only have one month to do it and then i have to give myself whatever grade i want! life is hard.

I can answer 2 as I go to waterloo and most of my friends r in biomed here.

It is not an easy or hard program, it's a fair program meaning you can get high marks if you work hard and also you can get destroyed just like most programs if you slack. This program used to be called pre-optometry. It covers all grounds once you graduate from this program, what I mean by this is that you will pretty much have the prereqs for Med, Pharm, Dent, Opt etc. So it's a good choice if you want more doors open other than med. Now anectodal stories. I personally know 10+ people getting into med school from that program so I'd assume it's safe for med. Weird thing is last year most people seemed to get into Mac I dunno why.
