wrighm6
Hi all, As an undergrad at Mac, we were given a free bus pass with our student card to travel on any bus for free (it's a great bus system and one of the best perks of the school). I've been away for a year and I think I heard someone during the interview say they've gotten rid of it. Does anyone know if a bus pass comes with the student card to med school? I Heart Rural Med
The person giving tours on my interview day said that we no longer get bus passes. (Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!)
wrighm6
Yeah, perhaps we were in the same interview group because she told us that as well. But I thought I remembered seeing a discounted rate or something somewhere? Maybe I was just hallucinating.
wrighm6
McMASTER UNDERGRADUATE and GRADUATE STUDENTS If you are a full time undergraduate or graduate attendee at McMaster University, your bus pass is included in your student fees. The pass will be valid from September until April for undergraduates and from September until August for graduates and is good for unlimited travel. You will obtain your validation sticker in your registration kit and must be placed on your McMaster Student Identification Card. When boarding, show the driver your McMaster card with the sticker attached to get to your destination. Please Note: Students are to affix only the valid HSR sticker to their McMaster I.D. Card that was issued to them by the Office of the Registrar or, the Graduate Student Association. Each sticker has a serial number which identifies the user. Stickers are NON-TRANSFERABLE. Students found in possession of, or involved in the illegal sale or distribution of validation stickers will be subject to criminal charges in accordance with the Criminal Code of Canada and, could also be charged under the McMaster Student Code of Conduct. Please ensure that your card has the proper sticker visible. Mutilated, faded or illegible stickers will not be accepted. Operators will confiscate your student I.D. card when misused and students will be required to pay the full adult fare. 2010 UNDERGRADUATE SUMMER SEMESTER PASS McMaster Undergraduate students now have the option of purchasing a Summer Semester Transit Pass for MSU students enrolled for the four (4) month summer semester, beginning May 1, 2010. This Pass may be purchased through the McMaster Students Union only for $284.00 for the four (4) month period May 1, 2010 to August 31, 2010. The Pass must be presented to an operator along with your McMaster Student Identification Card, which has an HSR validation sticker expiring April 30, 2010. wrighm6
McMaster Student U-Pass: Full-time students who are part of the MSU pay a fee of $121.80 (as of September 2010) on their tuition which entitles them an HRS bus pass that is good from September to April. Full-time students who are part of the GSA pay a fee of $142.20 for their pass that is good from September to August. Full-time means 18 units or more each term. Sorry for all the posts. Just getting all the info. I'm going to Mac tomorrow for house hunting, and I will confirm this with the med department. If it's true, it's much better than $40/month parking that's not even guaranteed a spot. Especially in the first year when I don't think the car is used that much. Hmm, okay, maybe they brought it back this year? I sure hope so! I'm heading to Hamilton to apartment hunt tomorrow too, maybe I'll see you there! japlanet
Mac undergrads and grads DO get a bus pass. However, med students DO NOT. Somehow we got passed over. I think that we (and the MBA students) are the only ones at Mac not to get a bus pass. Go figure.
notERDoc
To clear things up, a few years ago, the Med class voted to remove MD students from the mcmaster student union - so we don't pay the MSU dues, but we also don't get a bus pass (the MD validation sticker is different from the "regular" undergrad or grad student stickers). I'm not sure if you can purchase a bus pass add-on, but I don't believe that you can. Hope that bad news is of some clarification!
wrighm6
Thanks, I'll check tomorrow to see what's available then and perhaps I'll just go with a parking pass because I'll have my car there anyway.

ChicoMaki
I just finished my undergrad there and "lost my student card" twice for $50 and a med student happened to find it each time. I can guarantee that MD students do not have an HSR bus-pass in their student fees. However, offer an undergrad $50 for their troubles of getting a new student card (with validation sticker) and I'm sure you can get a bus-pass
wrighm6
Yup, just asked them today, and there is no bus pass for med students. Dang
FacetheMusic
I buy tickets - they are $2 each. Cash fare is $2.55. Some people in our class have undergrad's stickers that they managed to get from friends. We were warned we could get kicked out of med school for doing this, but I'm not sure how legitimate a threat that was.
