w8kg6
Hey all. I just figured I'd open up a thread to chat about this year's MOTP application process. I think it'd be a good place to chat about any information we know is definite, as well as anything else associated with the application. My experience: I've been a reservist medic for 1 year, and I've completed both aspects of my basic training (BMQ and SQ). I've gone on all of the field ex's my unit has done in the past year as well. What I know: The 40K signing bonus is gone. When I had my MOTP interview on April 26, I was told that there are only 4 seats, and they expect about 15 applicants. The committee sits in early July, and decisions should be released in mid to late July.
Tango Charlie
When do you do your trade course? I'm guessing not being fully trained would be seen as a negative. Also, where do you live? I've been an infantry jerk for about 4 years now and I've been trying to get trained as a medic and attached to my home unit here in Sudbury, but that ain't happening. Are you in Ottawa or otherwise working with a medic unit proper, or are you attached to some other regiment?

The 37 det is actually larger than the 35 det, though. Since I'm applying to MOTP and not MMTP, I really don't think that not being trade qualified will put me in a negative light, but I'm going to be doing it later in the summer anyway, so it's not a huge deal. Tango Charlie
Well, being a cornflake is never a good thing, but I suspect that you'll have an advantage over other applicants simply having done BMQ and SQ. Do you have any idea of how trained, if at all, the majority of MOTP applicants are? How'd you go about getting attached, then? I always thought I really should have been able to just go down and do my medic training during the summer and continue to parade with the infantry for the rest of the year, but I guess the CF disagrees. Did you have a local medic regiment initially, and then move to a different city, or did you somehow manage to get trained as a medic despite your local regiment being circus battalion? w8kg6
35 Syd has fairly well established dets around the maritimes, but none moreso than Saint John, as there are about 17 of us medics that are in my det (even though only 10 or 12 are active). I've been a part of the SJ det since I was recruited, so I didn't have to do anything with any paperwork on that end. The MOTP is geared almost exclusively to civilian entry, and because of this my case was one of the stranger ones that CFRC Fredericton came across. In light of this, I feel safe in saying that the typical MOTP applicant would have less military experience than myself. If a service member had been in for longer than 2 years, it would make more sense for them to apply through MMTP, so even the service members I'm applying alongside have a similar amount of experience. The captain who interviewed me opened the interview up by saying that the fact I had a military record would put me out in front of most applicants. He closed my interview by saying that it would be worth my while to get my hopes up about MOTP. Having a cornflake doesn't paint you as an idiot, it just means you're untrained. My interviewer (as well as almost every service member I've spoken with) was well aware of this, so I can't imagine how one would think that being untrained would be a detriment, especially when I'm applying mostly against civilians. I really don't think most MOTP applicants have much, if any training. If they did, they would go MMTP.
nemesis
...I can say that if I was absolutely sure I wanted to pursue FM, then I would strongly consider this program. ...What I know: The 40K signing bonus is gone. When I had my MOTP interview on April 26, I was told that there are only 4 seats, and they expect about 15 applicants. The committee sits in early July, and decisions should be released in mid to late July. Does that mean that this link, is outdated? EDIT: Nvm, I think this link, reveals that the signing bonus is no longer in effect (by its omission from the pdf).
w8kg6
Anyone come across any more info in the past month or so? Supposedly, the board sits within 2 weeks.
w8kg6
So, I know I've monopolized this thread, but just in case any one else is following, the board will sit on July 20. The CFRC you applied at should get back to you by the end of that week (July 23).

medtech
What happens if you decide in 3rd year you don't want to do FM? Court Marshall? Most likely, or you'll be released and owe a whole lot of money:rolleyes: I didn't get BMQ and SQ again this summer so I've been in 2 years and haven't been trained at all:mad: the problem is I can't do BMQ and SQ on weekends cause it really kills you GPA..... but with the military I'm used to them telling me that I'll go on course this summer, I give up job opportunities and stop looking for one altogether, a week before the course them telling me I couldn't get a slot.............. igotacookie
i was interested in MOTP until I tried looking for more information on it. I contacted the director and various other people via email for a shadowing role with a military physician to see if it was for me. Months later and a few query emails, and nothing has happened. If this is the way they operate than I certainly do not want to be a part of it...
medtech
intuatively you'd think the military is the most organized organization in any country. In reality nothing gets done, everything gets bogged down by paperwork and when the paperwork gets lost, the process starts over........
