Backpacks update

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

In case you don't follow the 1T4 group on facebook:

" Hi all,

This year, the CMA/OMA will be distributing the backpacks to your class. The colour and design of the backpack has not been made public yet, so be skeptical of any rumours that you hear. All I know is that it's by the same company (High Sierra) and it's fancier than last year's.

The MAA will not be distributing backpacks this year.

Love,

Team 1T4ientation (aka the O-Week committee)"

Also, other threads I have seen around here suggest that the MD financial backpack is 2 tones of grey. (also, I'm guessing the backpacks given out by the CMA/OMA are the MD financial backpacks because MD financial is run by the CMA?)

Fun news =)

For over 10 years, 1st Year Medical Students have looked forward to receiving their cohort's backpack from MD Physician Services, a Canadian Medical Association company. The backpacks are clearly identifiable by colour and will be distributed by the CMA, MD and Provincial Medical Associations. Med Students from across Canada tell us this signature bag enables them to quickly identify colleagues in the same year or from other graduating years.

This year, the 2010 MD/CMA backpacks are two tone silver/grey.

The first ones will be distributed at the University of Calgary later this week. Stay tuned for the backpack distribution date in your area.

Enjoy the backpack and congratulations on making the choice to pursue a career in medicine!

u guys already bought stethoscopes? isn't clinical work like 8 million hours of studying and exams away for you?

haa!

We also have a "Stethoscope Ceremony" this year during O-week where we receive our stethoscopes from the faculty. And they were way cheaper than normal this way!

Why did Toronto abandon the traditional White Coat Ceremony?

Or did they never have one, in the first place?

They claim that white coats are unhygienic (sometimes true) and so they don't want to be seen to be institutionally promoting them.

I think they just want to be different.

Haha, is that actually the basis for not have a ceremony?

The White Coat Ceremony is a symbolic ritual, more than a statement re: the usefulness of white coats in medicine. :)

I am familiar with some criticisms of the WCC, but to think it has to with physical coats itself, seems a bit strange!

we started using them in Nov/Dec in our year for the cardio practical exams. Not that far away at all actually :)

i think he/she was referring to UofT students, although I think the same is relatively true of UofT students (to the best of my knowledge...)

Toronto med is unique. White coat can be for med, dent, pharm, but stethoscope is only us meds!
