Advanced Credits - do they count as prereqs?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I was exempt from first year biology and first year chemistry at McGill University because I completed the credits in high school through the International Baccalaureate program. McGill granted me credits for these courses so I didn't have to take them. I'm not pursuing a major in the biological or life sciences, so I won't be taking any more bio/chem courses (organic chem aside) -- Do I need to take another "full year" of biology to fulfill pre-med requirements? Hypothetically, I've taken this course on my transcript, I just don't have a grade for it. It would be great to have this question answered! Thanks !

So at the UofA, it looks like you'd definitely still need to take at least a half year in biology and chemistry and maybe physics and English. Here's where you can find the exact requirements for the UofA: http://www.med.ualberta.ca/education/ume/admissions/dofm_require.cfm

I would double check each univeristy's admission requirements to see if your IB credits count to their prereqs. Each school is different and the only way you can be totally sure is to check out each school beforehand. Good luck!
