Volonteering on June 11th

Recommended Posts

Since being on this forum I read that ECs are fairly important and you should find something that you are passionate about.

I will be volunteering this Friday on june 11th for the Relay for life in Toronto. I thought the whole organization had a pretty cool event going on a 7pm-7am relay race, so I thought I would give a try volunteering.

What should I expect, how can I make this experience a positive one?

coffee coffee coffee coffee coffee, get the idea haha?

I helped organize one of these events in my last year of high school, it was EXHAUSTING, but well worth it! Umm what type of volunteering are you doing? Walking? Or helping with the actual set up/event/take down?

For our event, we started setting up early morning before the event. But the good stuff is when the event starts. We started our walk with a survivor lap, and I think I had tears in my eyes the whole time. A bunch of cancer survivors spoke out about how important it was to them that we keep raising money, and that put me in good spirits for the night ahead. I'll admit.. I did fall asleep for about 2 hours, between 3 and 5am... don't even remember actually falling asleep... I was just so exhausted.

SO! Get in good spirits before the event. There will probably be times where you are frustrated and grumpy because you will be up all night, but it's amazing how people come together for events like this. Well worth it :)

I remember volunteering at the last Run T.O. event a few years ago. It was fun (plus, they gave us free pants, socks, shoes, hat, and shirt). It was awesome, but mostly awesome because I was volunteering with friends and we got free swag
