admissons pre reqs?

Recommended Posts

seriously Ottawa what is with all these pre requisites

* Students must finish at least three years of university studies.

* During these years, they must take the following prerequisites:

o six credits in arts, social sciences, or administration;

o six credits in biology or zoology;

o two courses chosen from:

+ biochemistry (general course)

+ chemistry (general course)

+ organic chemistry.

I can't take all those biology courses cause I am a business major.... crossing ottawa off my list now

You'll also find that taking all those prereq courses eventually makes it easier to study for the MCAT, because you won't be starting from zero. I have friends in business who had all these courses anyway - it's only 4 over the course of, say, 30 courses in 3 years, or 40 in 4 years.

Really? You can't take 4 science classes in 4 full years of university? That's doubtful. Actually, unless you're in a super strict/specialized degree, it's a lie.

I can see not wanting to use up all your electives to take science pre-reqs..... but using summers you can knock all of those off quickly.

Between 2nd and 3rd year - Intersession - first year bio, Summer Session - first year chem.

Between 3rd and 4th year - Intersession - orgo.

Or you could take just one of them during the normal school year, and the other 2 during intersession so you never give up your full summer/leave time for the MCAT...

Given that the MCAT requires Chem, Bio and Orgo..... you could take a couple of them and have a crazy intersession just for the purpose of preparing yourself for the MCAt later that summer...

Without the MCAT, the only school you can apply to is NOSM.... given that you don't want to do the pre-reqs for Ottawa....

LOL... You don't want to leave NOSM as your only option, either. They have 65 seats and 2500-3000 applications a year. You'd better come from from a rural community if you want to stand a chance there, and a Northern one is much preferred. I went to their information session in 2009 and I'm fairly sure they said only one student from Southern Ontario has ever been admitted there, and that they had significant rural experience. (Not that I know where you're from...)
