medhopeful64
Hey guys, I have a bit of a problem. My referee is out of the country, and so won't be able to give me my letter until the first day of school (sept 13). Would my letters reach omsas in time? I don't know how strict that oct 1 deadline is (the booklet says its a strict deadline, but another person told me it wasn't). If its of any relevance, I am only applying to mac. Thanks
shannn
Give them an Xpresspost envelope, it only takes 1 business day to go anywhere within Ontario with tracking
thatonekid
It'll be fine. The letters will reach OMSAS in time.
HBP
Deadline isn't that strict. They don't forward the material to schools till later.

Thanks One of my referees didn't send in my letter to early November this year... and it didn't hurt me at all. That was probably starting to cut it close though... some of the schools have a Dec 1st deadline.
medhopeful64
One of my referees didn't send in my letter to early November this year... and it didn't hurt me at all. Really? I read another person on this forum got hers in after the oct 1 deadline and somehow she got "screwed." dunno, but then I realized I should just ask the post office and they told me it would only take 4 business days to get from my city to Guelph lol. So I guess I'm ok! thanks for your replies everyone.
Cnussey
It really should be sent by your ref and not by you. It doesn't help the credibility if it passes through your hands.
medhopeful64
It really should be sent by your ref and not by you. It doesn't help the credibility if it passes through your hands. I'm just dropping it off to the post office for them so they don't have to go there/pay stamp fees. It was just to be courteous. It will be sealed when it reaches my hands (besides, no one will know if I drop it off to the post office or if my ref does, right??) Oh also - do I put on my referee's work contact info or home? does it matter?
future_doc
It really should be sent by your ref and not by you. It doesn't help the credibility if it passes through your hands. So true. But if the applicant sends it and OMSAS does not know the signature of the referee, just think of how many nice things can be said......

Leon
So true. But if the applicant sends it and OMSAS does not know the signature of the referee, just think of how many nice things can be said...... Since the schools may call the referee, I don't think that route is wise. Quite a risk. As HBP said, I suggest you give them a stamp. If a ref even accidentally mentions "oh, that nice boy mailed it for me" during a call...........(I'm talking about extremes, but you probably want to follow protocol and be "safe")
