thami
Hi all, I'm really going back and forth on this. I am interested in the NMP but when I looked over the supplemental, I'm not sure if I should go ahead with it anymore. If I go for it, I will have a lot of blanks in the categories specified. I have never lived or worked in a remote anywhere. Most of my intention to do rural medicine is based on: - my research experience in addiction and mental illness, which is currently a huge issue in remote native reserves - my brief work at a camp with native children/youth facing domestic abuse, addiction, unstable homes/foster care, HIV, violence, etc. - my extensive outdoors experience Can someone tell me if I'm being delusional? Now that I've looked over the supplemental application, I'm thinking I'll just get laughed at if I end up submitting it.
kylamonkey
What have you got to lose? The intent is to identify those who are interested in rural and are ready for it. You fulfill the first requirement if you are interested. I really think that they're just looking to weed out those who won't be suitable for the NMP- does anyone know if there is an actual score associated with this supplemental? anna8
I actually filled it out as well even though I really don't have much experience in rural communities. My basis for filling it out is that I'm interested in the NMP, and I'm not quite sure which sites I'll be ranking (if given the chance) at this point. I don't think you'll lose anything if you do. Good luck!
AndreaM
It doesn't hurt to fill it out, but if you don't then you will be limited to the VFMP and IMP for your choices if you get an interview. If you are interested, why not keep the option open for now and make a decision later?

thami
Thanks all -- I'm going to go ahead and fill it in. You're right, nothing to lose, and keeping doors open is a good thing!
