Adderal

Recommended Posts

Some of my friends took adderal last year during exam time and raved (no drug pun intended) about it's benefits and how greatly it helped them focus and succeed.

I have a summer school exam coming up and I am having difficulty focusing. One of my friends has an adderal prescription and is willing to give me some.

I need some rational explanation from (pre)med students to tell me why I shouldn't (spare the ethical jargon...I mean biologically/medically what effect it may have).

Thanks!

it's the amphetamines. Amphetamines can be used for soldiers during long marches, so basically it keeps you awake and stimulated. U might also experience rapid heart rate, loss of appetite (it's also used for weight loss at some point in Canada), extreme thirst, increase BP, heart attack, psychosis.

I don't think you should use it. But i'm sure you already know that

P.S my side effects list may not be complete or 100% correct. you should look it up urself.

How about it's illegal to take a prescription drug that's been prescribed to someone other than you? If that's too much of an ethical argument for you, then consider that it's been linked to heart attacks and death, it can be addictive, and it's dangerous to take something like that without first talking to your doctor who knows your medical history to see if it would be safe for you to take it.

See a physician and ask, it is a legitimate qestion and if appropriate, you will receive a prescription.

We are not doctors, not qualified and not entitled to give medical advice on this forum. If you are no longer the same person, will your parents sue me for giving you advice I have no right to give to you, which has harmed you? I am sparig the ethical jargon and jumping right to the legal jargon and the financial exposure of anybody who would be stupid enough to tell you to take illegal drugs. We want to be doctors, acting legally and in the best interest of our future patients, not quacks giving internet medical advice.

Your welcome!

I am not looking for validation to take it - I was looking for people to tell me it's f-ing crazy to consume and here is what it will do to you and your brain.

Didn't you just answer your own question? You must know on some level that it's not a smart thing to do. If you were a doctor, what would you tell someone that was taking prescription medication prescribed to someone else??

It is f-ing crazy to consume unless given by a physician. And I have no idea why you would not want to see one. Instead, you ask here?? If you are serious, sorry, it does not add up to logical thinking! I have a friend who has a focus/concentration problem. It is documented at his university. And he is taking a drug to help. He would be f-ing crazy and irresponsible to share it with anybody else and he doesn't.

i forgot to mention that this drug (dextroamphetamine) is normally indicated for ADHD.

As for the OP, i understand that in some situations we all panic and want to use a easier way to accomplish our goals. But compromising your health is prolly not worth it.

All the more reason to see a doc.

I know of a kid who tried some drugs, he 16, he did not know what he took, nor do his parents. He fried his brain and is no longer who he used to be and has no future. It just ain't worth the risk of self-medicating. Look at Michael jackson as an extreme example, and he had a medical facilitator at the time of his death (as well as many more, before his death). There are no short-cuts.

Wow, there's some wackiness in this thread. Hey, OP, don't take it. Will you "fry your brain" (not to get too technical on everyone) or turn into a gay communist like those kids who tried weed just one time? No, probably not. But there's no real benefit to using the stuff either in your case. Just study a lot and get some sleep the night before and you'll be fine.

I may not legally be a doctor but I can tell you one thing. Taking Adderal when it isn't prescribed for you will fry your brain into 'a million little pieces'. It may seem like 'Candy' but it will seriously mess you up. If you don't believe me, 'Go Ask Alice'.

runningdoc, I, f_d, believe you and I certainly would not do anything to fry my brain, but we must protect teendoc from himself. I believe that a teen does not always know what is best for them, I didn't always when a teen, and I always was able to consult dear Alice. :P

Look, I'm with everyone here in saying you shouldn't take something not prescribed to you. But could we dispense with the hyperbole? It won't "fry his/her brain into a million little pieces" with any degree of certainty. You are wrong to say it will do any particular thing because you do not know what the effect will be. Again , I agree with everyone in this thread in saying he should not take it, there are risks in taking it which he doesn't need to expose himself to, and that better work ethic will make taking it unnecessary. But this disingenuous War on Drugs rhetoric, where any use of drugs which isn't legal will instantly cause your brain to melt and leak out of your nose, is garbage.

So, dispensing with the nonsense, if you take it you will probably be fine and a lot of students do use it regularly with no adverse effects despite not having been prescribed it. There are reports of death associated with abusing this drug as it's a lot like cocaine, and you risk those effects, but at the same time it's a commonly prescribed and used drug.

But, to reiterate, if you improve your work ethic and hit the ground running with your studies you will have no reason to take this drug.

I always thought adderall was banned in canada? I thought the only ADD medications used here were ones such as ritaline, concerta etc.... Are your friends importing the drug from the united states?

Yeah, it's not available in Canada far as I know. There were some deaths in peds who used/abused it in conjunction with heart defects and other factors, and Canada put the nix on its sale here until more research is done or something to that effect.

Hey its risky transporting banned drugs into the country. I'm not from ontario so I don't know what thw border patrol is like crossing into the US but I wouldn't be caught carrying and illegal drugs over the border here in BC. But I guess this does not apply to you since its your friends.
