lynnt
Does anyone know when is the last time I could write the Canadian DAT if I want to get into an American dental school for the entrance year 2012? thank you
colos
The latest I'd write it would be is feb 2011, since you'll be applying in June and want them to be able to view your application right away. Otherwise if you write it in nov 2011, they'll wait till dec (when the marks are released) to review your application, which is really pushing your luck for even getting the chance at an interview. This is precisely why I'm not applying to American schools this year. For the most part it's a waste of time and money. Write the DAT, and apply super early for American schools. If you have to wait another year to do so, then do so.

Write the DAT, and apply super early for American schools. If you have to wait another year to do so, then do so. I don't really think it's a waste of money, but that's just my opinion. From the previous cycle, I had applied to both american and canadian schools. I was accepted at CWRU by December 1st, which allowed me to send in my intent to graduate form (since I was only in 3rd year) & I didn't have to worry about planning on what courses to take for 4th year (yeah it might not be bad, but why worry about it if you don't have to ). I ended up only getting on the waiting list for 2 of the 5 Canadian schools I applied to, and luckily managed to get off 1 of the waiting lists. If I didn't get in, I would have been pretty pissed about wasting another year in undergrad if I really didn't need too. Do what you thinks best, and whether or not you're okay with waiting another year just to reapply if need be.
