astrogirl
So, my last name is very uncommon, somewhat long, hard for people to spell and pronounce, and ends in a double consonant. I have a conference abstract where the PI (who had known me for 7 years at the time!!) accidentally left the second consonant off of my last name when he submitted it, and by the time anyone noticed it it was too late to change it, and it will now live forever in the literature with my name spelled wrong. When I put it on my med school applications, should I explain that, or should I just leave it alone and assume that they'll figure it out? It's pretty obvious that it actually is me, since the abstract is about educational outreach at the university I was attending at the time, so I doubt that they'll think that there was another girl there with almost my exact name but missing the one final letter and I'm trying to steal her work or something like that. And one of the other co-authors is my co-author on three other things I'm listing. Opinions?
