metukah Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 Hi guys, I know that the average non-Ottawa, english stream wGPA had been ~3.8. My weighted GPA is 3.72, and OMSAS wGPA is 3.68. If I don't meet their yearly cutoff, will I be automatically rejected? That is, they won't even look at my sketch? I think I have some pretty stellar ECs, and its pretty upsetting to think that 0.1-0.2 less of a GPA will disqualify me.... I am also a graduate student, though I know Ottawa doesn't consider this...
randolph Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 hallo metukah, i think the non-ottawa english stream cutoff is generally 3.85, and 3.83 at the very low end. it does suck to be a little off on some cutoff. A 0.01 or 0.02 difference is small but a 0.1-0.2 difference is actually pretty big though. might be best to focus on acing ur grad studies and apply elsewhere in ontario

I'm pretty sure none non-Ottawa English stream have been interviewed w/ anything lower than 3.85. I'd love this to be the case considering I'm yet another of what seems to be many 3.84's.
Addy K Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Well a few years ago it was 3.83, but I believe for the past 2 years it has been 3.85. And to the OP, they changed their criteria in regards to graduate students - you must meet the GPA requirement even if you are a graduate student.
HBP Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 OP, no point applying to Ottawa. My Ottawa wGPA was like 3.7x last year. I didn't bother applying. This year its 3.86ish I think, so I'll give it a go.
Dr. Jan Intor Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 wait you dont have to meet the cutoff every given year right? only the weighted total GPA should be >3.85 or w/e the cutoff is??
supafield Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 wait you dont have to meet the cutoff every given year right? only the weighted total GPA should be >3.85 or w/e the cutoff is?? right.... my wgpa was made up of a 3.6, 3.89 and 3.9.... so even though my 3.6 was well below, the other two brought me up enough to clear the cutoff.
Psychobabble Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 wait you dont have to meet the cutoff every given year right? only the weighted total GPA should be >3.85 or w/e the cutoff is?? Yep! I'm pretty sure that's only a UWO thing

If you don't meet cutoff you'll automatically be rejected. Ottawa's IP Non-Ottawa GPA requirement hovers around 3.83, and 3.86 OOP. If you're an Ottawa resident it lowers to around a 3.7, which is what it was this year.

champ Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Yeah I was under the impression you need to have at least a 3.85 wgpa for out of ottawa in province applicants so the answer to your question is yes unfortunately.
mehtash3 Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 Just wondering if an interview is likely if your wGPA is 3.83.. thanks!
hopelessWaitlister Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 Just wondering if an interview is likely if your wGPA is 3.83.. thanks! Hey Mehtash, Are you OOP or live in Ottawa area? If you are OOP, then 3.83 is a bit risky, but still worth a try. You never know what will happen without trying. Good luck!

osmosis Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 i have finished entering my marks for the OMSAS application and i calculated my last three full time years wGPA and it came out to 3.695. i was just wondering if the admissions committee would round this up to 3.70 or leave it at 3.695? thanks.
