backpacker
Is it better to group things together or break things up? for example for student government, if you were the president of something, then naturally you will also be on committees, and also the year before you were also involved in this student government as a lesser significant role would you guys suggest grouping it together in 1 entree to show longer time commitment and progression or have 3 separately entrees (ie committee in 2009 vs presidency 2009 vs VP in 2008)? Similarly, say for a sport I have been playing on organized league all my life from high-school to university (2 different university). Should I have 1 entree for all the years in which case it is hard to say exactly which year i participated or have 3 separate entrees?
doc_holliday
My opinion is group things together. The title of the section is academic experiences. So being part of the student government was an experience. I would title the experience as president of student government and then in the description have the fact that you were at a lower rank and worked your way to president. I think that the evaluator may get angry if you separate things that are part of one experience with one organization. They may think you are trying to get more out of something than you really should. If you put them all together under one title, and have a good description, they will get the importance of the experience and they won't think your trying to split the same experience into a bunch of categories to unnecessarily fill space. Just my opinion though...
keepontrying
I personally think this depends if your roles are concurrent and if they are mutually exclusive. For example, if you were a coordinator responsible for assigning duties and monitoring executives' performance in an organization, as well as a major promoter externally on behalf of the organization, I would split the experience into two entries.
