Struggles
Hi, Not an easy question to ask but need some help and thought maybe someone could help me out: I'm struggling with something personal, and wanted to know if UA grants deferrals? If so, do you know under what grounds and what the burden of proof is? Thanks a ton

There are people at the university there to talk to you and help you with life struggles.
Struggles
So sorry to hear - have you thought about talking to someone in student affairs? There are people at the university there to talk to you and help you with life struggles. I'm quite sure I'm too late to apply for one, but might still ask. I don't want this opportunity to pass but I'm not sure I could attend school in just 2-3 weeks and actually focus with what I've got going on (family issues). Thanks for the reply
cardiomegaly
Sorry to hear that struggles, never fun to be dealing with family stuff when you have a big change ahead. Definitely talk to the department of student affairs - Marj is one of the assistants, Dr. Mereu and Dr. Yiu are extremely kind and understanding individuals who devote their time to making sure we are OK. I don't know if it's too late for deferral or not, but if you do end up starting in September you can feel relieved in a sense that O-Week and Intro Block will last 6 weeks and the amount of work you'll need to do is unbelievably minimal. The quizzes don't count and no one, not even staff can remember the last time someone failed the block. I'm sure you could get excused from DL and catch up on any lecture online. Most days you'll have maximum 3-4 hours of schedule DL/class from what I recall. hope things look up for you. whatever your'e going through just communicate with the faculty and they'll help you out. Not sure if i should talk to someone at UA, i don't want them to think i'm not committed. I am, but family is always first for me. Hopefully i can still manage and get over there in time for the year.
TheBoss
I think you should definitely give them a call. As far as I know, medical schools in Canada are actually very accomodating of their students. They're not heartless, and I honestly think they'll understand if you tell them you are having family problems. Also, if you don't get the deferral, I very highly doubt that you'll be in anyway penalized for asking for it.
