Mac Health Sci Program

I have read in several threads that the Mac Health Sci Undergrad Program is a very tight nit group.

For those that have been through the program, what would you say about the people in the program? Does everyone mesh well together? I would be a little concerned based on the "type" of person that the program attracts. Hardworking, passionate, driven etc. Having tons of these alpha types together could be a + or -. Are the students as close and family like as some threads claim them to be?

It really is a tight-knit community. Everyone is quite friendly and there are parties/study sessions/ etc (which are done together)

Having said that, negative aspects do exist. As it is a small group, rumours spread really fast. Also there are people who would not share their notes (I'd say a small portion of them do exist.. even though most of health scis are always willing to help each other out) .. and people who are very very cocky.

However, in my opinion, it is an excellent program overall and although it has only been one year, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in the program!

I would bet my life that you're not white, being in the health sci program and all. Tell me I'm wrong.

I'm not actually in this program, but I am friends with quite a few of them. From what I can see, everyone in the program gets along well. I don't think they're actually 'family-like' but people in the program definitely tend to stick with those in the program (but then again, this is a generalization..not everyone is like that).

And as for the alpha personality types, I don't really think theres actually that many of them. I feel like the program attracts certain types of thinkers rather than certain types of personalities.

i am not health sci, but i went to mac, and i would say that the people in the program are closer (as a whole) than most other programs - although this is probably the case in any program in which the "faculty" is made up of approx. 150 students / year.

i really don't think that having a program of all hardworking, driven, passionate people would take away from anything...

I feel like the program attracts certain types of thinkers rather than certain types of personalities.

i would have to disagree completely... if the screening tool were something like an IQ test, verbal reasoning, high school math grades, etc (i.e. something that correlates with 'thinking'), that may be true... but it is primarily high school grades, EC's, and supp. application (to the best of my knowledge... i didn't apply)... high high school marks can be achieved by most any smart person who tries, let's be honest... high school EC's is primarily related to personality... and supp. application represents personality... i would say the program definitely attracts certain types of personalities (i.e. driven/hardworking... such as those who geared up for med school much earlier than most) vs. a certain type of thinker
