dreamer
3.3 GPA (even after dropping one year, but strong 4.0 last 2 years) 33Q MCAT (but 7 in verbal) I'm seriously considering making a move for IP, but don't even know if that will help with that GPA (puts on flame retardant suit). Does anyone know of anyone successful getting into U of A with these stats? Same with U of C, if anyone else can answer that here I'll just save a post in the other forum. Thanks! igotacookie
take a glance over the admission stat threads for uofa/uofc I saw someone in the UofC thread get in off the waitlist by a hair with a 3.4 undergrad GPA but she also had a stellar mcat, extensive research, and a masters. I think your out of luck at our schools... your gpa is 2.0, 2.3, 4.0, 4.0?? that is insane and unfortunate. What is your home province?
bloh
I think the chance at UofC and UofA is very slim. UofA gives an option of laying out your extenuating circumstances but who knows what that can consist of or if it will work for you.
dreamer
Thanks guys for the input, appreciate it. I did see someone in the U of A thread who got in off the waitlist with <3.5 GPA, whatever that means. I did a second degree in 2 years to end up with those stats. If you don't drop a year, cGPA is even lower. Home province was ON, the med-school-free-for-all capital of the world. I'm actually in process of becoming Maritimes resident for IP, but they require 2 years of living for IP status (flame suit on...). I think they only look at top 2 years, and so I would be on equal footing there. I've already ventured 2.5 years into this, but gonna try and keep positive about this and keep pushing. TheBoss
Sask only looks at your two best years GPA, hopefull you should be able to get an interview there, even as a OOP. Then the interview will be all that matters
igotacookie
if you have $$$, perhaps its time to look at American schools. Or ironically, if you don't mind working in the states... Caribbean schools would be a guarantee.
HBP
Why not rewrite MCAT to secure UWO/Queens?
dreamer
Why not rewrite MCAT to secure UWO/Queens? Easier said than done! I was weak in verbal, rewrote a few weeks ago, waiting for score now. But I gotta say, clearing all the cut offs and getting a balanced score I think is difficult for most people. cardiomegaly
If someone got into U of A with <3.5 GPA they probably had a 35+ MCAT and likely a masters/some favourable status like being a rural applicant. The average accepted GPA for degree+ holders in the past couple years have been >3.8, with an MCAT ~33Q. I think in the accepted thread there's one 2013 who has less than a 3.5 but with a killer MCAT and masters/PhD candidate or something like that... I kinda doubt U of A will give you a chance. U of C's worth a shot though. Esp if you can do a killer interview.
