sobes74
So undergrads at Western (including medical students) do not have a dental insurance plan as part of the tuition. I'm not covered under my parents anymore, and my graduate school insurance plan will obviously end come the end of August. Just wondering how current students have been going about this issue... any student plans one can purchase that are worthwhile? Any input would be greatly appreciated! If you join the OMA/CMA, you can purchase a policy.... I'm not sure how good/cost effective it is, but I plan on looking into it.

Starting this fall there is a new opt in dental plan at Western for medical students specifically - I am one of the people who is working on that project. Obviously it is the first year so there will be things to work out and improve on but there is a dental plan now at Western for us. Med school is a bit different than UG - if you see something you don't like or something new you do want you can actually manifest the changes you want. Don't ever think you are a passive participant to things

Any info on when we would opt in to this/how soon it'd come into play? I don't mean to pester- it's just that I was *just* told that I would need to get my wisdom teeth out asap and wanted to make sure I'd be covered when this happens. The rough quotes for Ontario residents under 30 is around $40-45/month premiums for the dental coverage.

There is a max limit per year as well that we can start to work with. I guess it is a bit tight to get that done before August at this point, which is annoying! rosettastoned
As Windsor students we have some coverage: Dental Plan Coverage: * 100% of one Exam, including X-Rays * 100% of one cleaning and one Fluoride * 75% coverage for removal of impacted teeth, including up to two Wisdom Teeth * 75% of cost of normal fillings * Other oral surgery covered at a rate of 10% So, worst case scenario, you'd be able to pay a bit less.
