bigwiggins
Hi guys, I'm starting med school in the fall. Right now I am doing a research internship. My supervisor wanted to send a letter to my "department chair" and "undergraduate chair" just to let them know what I've been doing. Do you know who would be the best people in the Faculty of Medicine to send a letter to? I could always just put down Philip Baker but somehow I feel like it would be kind of random for the Dean to receive a letter about what some random medical school student is doing. Thanks in advance.
bloh
There's no need to send a letter. To put it another way, would the dean or the chair or whomever want to hear about my drinking shenanigans over the summer?
bigwiggins
Yeah, I agree with you-normally, you would think that they would just provide you a letter of reference and then you could use that letter again when you needed it (like at CaRMS time, for example). On a side note, I hope that my internship amounts to a little bit more than intoxication... Anyways, I'll just take a look at the med website and see what happens. Wut?
Why would you need said letter? As a sidenote, CaRMS references are usually from preceptors in your clinical years. Also, nothing that happens prior to medical school is put on your Dean's letter, although you are free to include it in your own CV.
Lactic Folly
UGME does ask for a letter of documentation of research completed during medical school for your MSPR come CaRMS time. If you submit one early, they could likely keep it in your file in the UGME, though I'm not sure that they would consider activities prior to starting med school (unless continued afterwards). If your supervisor is inclined to write a letter of reference for future use, that would likely be more useful.
