metro pass

Recommended Posts

As a long-time toronto resident, you WILL want to use the subways and streetcars all the time. Probably not the bus all that much, buses suck :P I think the cost of the metropass works out to 40 trips per month (it's about $120 now, right?), and if you're going to use it on a daily- or almost-daily basis it's worthwhile. Otherwise you can get day passes to cover weekend travel for two adults (or one during the week, but it's really a good deal on the weekend), and the rest of the time the fare still isn't outrageous. Just see how often you use it in the first month, and if after a week or two you realize you really need a pass, pick up week passes until the next month.

But definitely, don't call it "the bus" in Toronto :P it's "the TTC" or "the subway", but buses really don't represent the system here! lol

(ugh, pre-emptive longing for my city! I will miss you for three years!)

I heard that the ttc will be issuing new student metro passes for postsecondary students. I remember hearing that will be about $100 per month.

I've never bought a metro pass (haven't felt that its worth it). Living downtown you can walk anywhere.

EDIT: Just googled it. $99 per month.

If you live downtown or biking distance, go save some money and just LEG it everywhere :P (yes, even during winter if you're hardcore ...)

However, if you live uptown or midtown, then having a metro pass will save you money during the long run. But the biggest variable is how often you travel to school AND how often you travel around town for fun and errands.

IMO, if you can, live downtown :D

(They're building new condos downtown, feels good man)

but apparently you have to be a high school student to qualify as a student

No, post-secondary students are now also eligible (for this upcoming September metropass). You have to first buy a $7 pass from the university called the "TTC Student ID" and then you can purchase the $99 student metropass.
