ghostgirl123
I was just wondering if anyone has their/is it ok to ask your referee to see the reference letter before they are sent off? I've worked with my referees in writing the letters (help them came up with specific examples. etc) and I'm sure the letters will be at least decent. But I just want to proofread everything and maybe make more suggestions, and maybe bring them from decent to great. How does one go about asking their referee to see the letter? HBP
You're not supposed to.
Cnussey
No. It removes some of the integrity of the letter. If you cannot trust your ref to write an appropriate letter, then you need a new ref.
ghostgirl123
I understand that. I guess I recall seeing some people's posts from the past along the lines of "I got very strong reference letter from so and so" and it sounded like (to me at least) they have seen the letter. future_doc
Depending upon the relationship, you masy give the referee a draft letter for his/her consideration to change as they deem fit. In the normal course, you would have asked for a "strong" LOR, watchingt rheir body language as wel as hearing teir words for you to determine if you had confidence in this potential referee. Then, you would have given your transcript, an updated CV and a personally addressed motivational letter (equivalent of the U/T Essay) explaining your motivation and how you reached this point in your life. They could have been told by their interviewers that their letters were strong.
