Yalta
Hi, As some of you know, in Université de Montreal, Sherbrooke, Laval, there are pre-clinical grades on a 4,3 scale (A+,A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc.) Does anybody know how much weight do they carry when applying for residency in Quebec (aside of McGill) ? Or outside the province in an university using only P/F ? Is someone with an averaged GPA doomed for competitive specialties ? Is a high GPA really an asset ? Any kind of information, stories regarding this topic would be welcomed.
thebouque
For residency in the French schools preclinical grades have some weight, about 20-30% depending on the school and program. You can download the ulaval pdf that describes the criteria for each specialties on their websites. For McGill and the (H) P/F schools, I have no ideas how they take those grades into consideration. Maxime
They count to varying degrees depending on the program and location. Some programs are transparent about their value, others not. Even though the anglophone schools don't have grades per say, there is a dean's letter that is supposed to detail your academic performance.
