cclawfjj
any psychiatrists in the house? lol or any other members who would like to share PRACTICAL strategies that have worked for you...(I dont want it to affect my GPA any further) I guess there's always the option of de-activating, but I've found myself re-activating my account within a day at most. I know it's unrealistic to quit facebook altogether overnight...I want to find a way to gradually reduce its usage

seeking1
Cuss out everyone on Facebook/post a controversial status. Lose friends. Success. This is perhaps the most direct way of making Facebook less worthwhile to the OP. Can't keep him/her off it though. OP, ask yourself, what do you actually use FB for? I, for example, use FB as a kind of message machine, seeing as I don't use the phone much and everyone I know uses a computer.
Steve-0
For someone who doesn't have FB, and never has, this is hilarious. It sounds like you are trying to get off crack cocaine.

pininkid
As ridiculous as it sounds, I can totally relate. If you have a Mac, try SelfControl: http://visitsteve.com/work/selfcontrol/ "Is email a distraction? SelfControl is an OS X application which blocks access to incoming and/or outgoing mail servers and websites for a predetermined period of time. For example, you could block access to your email, facebook, and twitter for 90 minutes, but still have access to the rest of the web. Once started, it can not be undone by the application, by deleting the application, or by restarting the computer – you must wait for the timer to run out." You could even block premed101. moo
FB just replaced what I used to use in high school and college. In high school and undergrad, I called people and also used ICQ/MSN messenger. Back then I was addicted to this service as well. It wasn't as instant but it certainly was addictive. Nowadays, all my friends are on FB but we still usually email each other. I rarely post updates on FB or post on my friends' walls. We mostly keep in touch the old fashioned way, which is email. I know it's ancient but I guess that's the way we grew up. To curb your addiction, just quit cold turkey and don't log in to your page for a week. You won't miss it. shakko
Plug out your internet cable and cut it - if you have wireless, we need another way to cut down your facebook usage Or another good option was already mentioned - try to post as little as possible yourself - if you don't post, you won't get a reaction - that works for me at least ...
