liverpool
All other things aside, would someone with an average GPA for admission into med school (eg. 3.8-3.92) be able to get in with "average" ECs...or, to rephrase my question a bit, does someone in this GPA range require more exceptional ECs than someone with say a 3.97-4.0? Clever
Different schools weigh the two differently. Let me tell you, 3.8 is a solid GPA; and average EC's will definitely get you an interview somewhere. Don't forget MCAT and reference letters also factor into your score. So if your GPA were lower than the 3.8 it could be made up for with other areas. For example at School A: Academics: x/45 MCAT: x/25 EC's: x/15 Ref letter: x/15 While at school B: MCAT: x/70 Everything else: X/30 It should be noted that GPA does not correlate 100% with academic score, so they also consider other factors (e.g major)

I was under the impression that the programs you pursue are irrelevant as long as you complete the prereqs and make sure that your coures correspond your year of study. milos
UofC has a more 'subjective' interpretation of academic score. They say there is no preference in major but they do not have a scale saying GPA->Academic score for instance.
