coolbond
Okay, so I have my MMI interview coming up soon. While I feel like I have done adequate practice with ethical/critical thinking scenarios I am finding it hard to find many different role-playing scenarios to practice. Does anyone know where I can find these type of questions for practice? I hope I am not breaching any sort of confidentiality by asking for this information (I am NOT expecting you to tell me what specific questions you had on your interview, just a good source to role-playing questions that's all)
Anne
They use role playing scenarios to train counselors and mentors so I just searched for mentor/counselor training scenarios. Just ask a good friend to act one of them out and remember to ask them to be belligerent or to give you a hard time just in case that is how the actor plays it. I used to work as a res fellow in my university and we had to do this type of training- all role playing scenarios. I think all universities train their res don's/fellows/assistants this way so it may not hurt requesting some scenarios from the residence office at your university- they generally have a ton of resources like that and I found it helpful because the questions are never based around the idea that you are a physician, so they get you thinking out of the box. Last piece of advice is that, from what I have seen, role playing exercises generally are measuring communication techniques. In mentoring you learn techniques for dealing with those in crisis and I think those techniques would apply to similar situations if you were to get the infamous "Sara is afraid to fly" scenario. I think it might help to look into communication techniques for certain situations. IT SHOULD BE NOTED HOWEVER THAT IS MY FIRST TIME APPLYING AND I COULD ACTUALLY BE ALTOGETHER CLUELESS ABOUT THIS!
