wikipremed

I think one could do well using wikipremed but there are some stipulations:

1) you have to be very self-directed because you have to come up with your own study schedule.

2) You have to source practice materials - the ones on wikipremed are scattered around and some (imo) are not really a good reflection of what you can expect on the MCAT.

Personally, I'd invest in a course bc they will provide everything you need, a study schedule, practice questions, mock MCATs, etc. Because they provide everything, I have found that I can just focus on learning and practicing, and not waste my time foraging for multiple sources.

I have a few friend who have taken MCAT study courses and every single one of them said it was a waste of money. One said that if he could he would just pay for the online study material, because classes are a waste of time. Some people find classes helpful, but if you're one of those students who prefers to have the notes from each lecture and study on your own time, then you may wish to avoid the classes.

Well, I don't have the cash to throw around on ridiculously expensive prep courses. I bought a small practice book and got Exam Kracker's Audio as a gift. I did the rest with wikipremed and google to fill in details, and motivated myself to do the work ... I scored 38T. Seems to have worked okay. I say try it, it's free... if it doesn't work for you try something else.

I used the audio osmosis every day on my walk/busride to work for about a year. I focused on the sections I didn't have memorised, and I just kept rewinding and playing back until I more or less could anticipate what was coming next before it came. When I had time I augmented it with internet study of areas I knew from the audio that I was weak on, just quizzing myself, reading sections, etc. I did a lot of 'read a section, draw a diagram of it' for the bio and orgo stuff. For verbal reasoning I have described my technique in a couple other threads. Basically, I read a lot already, so I practiced reading/comprehending faster, and scanning sections for specific words at a glance. Then I did as many free practice exams and questions as I could find, mainly on wikipremed and then in my practice book. Finally did the AAMC practice free exam and then shelled out for one more and called myself ready.

Making my own flash cards was a good thing too. Did that from notes I found/made online.
