itchybum
Say I am waitlisted at Toronto (let's assume favorite school) and I accept an offer at Saskatchewan (let's assume backup school). a) Do Ontario med schools know that I took an offer elsewhere in Canada? Does any school care? I know that accepting two offers simultaneously sends signals across Canada, both schools contact you immediately and you have 48 hours to make up your mind. thatonekid
You can accept an offer at one school and stay on another OOP waitlist. The only thing you'll lose (if you get in off the waitlist) is the deposit you put down at the other school, which isn't much in the grand scheme of things.
Honestly, I would be happy if i get accepted anywhere. Sometimes choice is not an option. I would rather have a sure thing than wait all summer for the wait list to move and have built up anxiety all summer for no real reason. That's my opinion... hell i would go to some no name school in the middle of nowhere if it meant a certified medical degree, and assured residency in Canada. Anyways, school is going to cost an arm and a leg anyways so what is a couple of thousand dollars for travel expenses/rent in the grand scheme of things. Family will always be just a plane ride away. bloh
It's a valid question and many exercise this right. You just lose your deposit.
Future_doc2
Best option is to accept whichever school, and stay on the waitlist for your top choice. You may loose the deposit if you change your mind, but that shouldn't be a problem in the big picture.

As for you, just get your 3.1 GPA and 20M MCAT and go to SGU and come to Canada to practice as a GP if that's all you care about.

Most canadian school offer very similar learning experiences, so you can be a great doctor no matter where you are. And there's nothing wrong with being a GP

That means he is talking about Canadian med schools. I don't think hoping that you get into one of Canadian med schools is considered a 'low' expectation (unless, of course, you are trolling).
Just for the record (since the TROLL was writing about my message), I do not have low expectations. I am merely realistic for my situation. Not everyone can obtain a 4.0 gpa, maintain e.c.'s, and volunteer all at the same time. In reality most applicants such as myself will probably have to relocate to an unfavorable location in Canada to pursue our dreams. Nothing worth having comes easy and that is all so true in medicine. The reality of medicine in Canada is that there are too many qualified applicants for too few spots, and as such even exceptional people get rejected for no apparent reason. Medicine has been a dream of mine since career day in grade 1, and I will sacrifice my social life and my family to relocate to another city or province for that dream to become a reality. I will only live once, and this would be my chance to do something I always wanted to do. I find it sad and disheartening that people such as yourself could write such hurtful things on a forum that is meant to bring together like-minded individuals to support one another in their future endeavors. Which is worse is you find time to be so malevolent and vicious towards someone and yet you want to be a doctor. Clearly good character and altruism is not on your application. All I can say is good luck to you in your future, I hope all works out for you and you achieve your dreams. Ill will towards others will get you nowhere in life. Cheers,
