Should I Still Consider Med?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I'm a neurosci major at University of Toronto - St. George. I haven't taken a full course load for the past 3 years, and my marks are not that amazing. If I show a steady upward trend in my GPA and stellar MCAT scores, would I still have a chance for med anywhere? Also would the full course load aspect apply to international schools?

Cheers.

All depends on your cGPA and yearly GPA breakdown. That said, a steady upward trend is always good if significant. Stellar MCAT scores can offset a sub-par GPA (by med standards) at US schools.

Full course load always looks more favourable. Don't think people on here can help you more without knowing a little more about your situation.

ps: I was also an NRS major at UTSG. Decent program.

It depends what your GPA is now. Full course load can give you certain weighting advantages at certain med schools (such as U of T) but you won't be eligible unfortunately.

Can you provide us with a breakdown? It also depends which international school you are looking at.

++ to all the posters

But be careful, a 35 MCAT wont offset a 1.7 GPA. So I would not apply to Us schools unless you have over 3.0 GPA at minimum. I am not sure about international schools but I heard the "better ones" ie australia, carribeans, require higher GPA as well.
