What journals and blogs do you read?

Recommended Posts

So I am a total dork and am always reading. I have tons of time this summer before I start medicine (hurray for taking the summer off!)... Does anyone have any suggestions for journals or blogs to read?

I am reading a few journal articles here and there and just enjoying reading interesting thoughts on PBL, medical education, techniques, etc. I have also been working my way through the blogs people on this forum write and the blogs that those blogs link to (shout out to medrunner). Here are the journals I am experimenting with: CMAJ (article collections are interesting), NEJM (super cool videos) and Student BMJ (random articles)... Also, another thing about me is that I love acronyms!

The only medical blog I read is drsharma.ca - it's about obesity management. He's a U of A guy, actually gave us a lecture or two back in 1st year.

That's funny, because I am meeting Dr. Sharma for a coffee this Friday. I am part of the U of T chapter of the Canadian Obesity Network. He is in town and suggested we meet up. Seems like a cool guy.

I like my blog... http://surrealmeds.blogspot.com/ ... though I'm biased.

And I really like reading the Rural physicians' journal (SRCP). It tends to have lots of great practical advice and offers a new slant on thinking about issues that we don't tend to cover in academic medicine.

I'm a bit of a tech head so I also follow http://www.imedicalapps.com/

They give reviews of apps that tend to stand up to real use.

That's cool! I actually follow him on Facebook, and I saw his post asking people in Toronto if they wanted to meet up for coffee, haha. He IS pretty cool. And I'm also part of CON, although I'm not super-involved, just go to journal club and such. I was planning to do an elective at his clinic in 4th year.

Nice! That would be a great opportunity as he is obviously a very well known and respected physician and researcher.

Is it not enough that I have a list of (fiction) books to read this summer that you now give me all of this stuff? For shame Cerena, for shame...

Come now, isix. Get your head together. I pump out 20 books a day plus read, draw comics, compose music AND act. Simultaneously. This is on the off chance that I'm having lazy day.

Surely you can handle a couple of blogs.

For shame, Cerena?

More like for shame, isix.

:D

E-hugs <3

I'm going to go into a corner and cry now :( I hope you're happy.

And if I post elsewhere on this forum, it's only because I have my iPhone with me in my corner.

And now I've also just realized that if I'm not doing ten awesome things at once, I really shouldn't be going to medschool. What now?
