June 16th MCATers UNITE!

I am! Feeling really stressed because I was only able to start studying May 10th... Long, more personal, story behind that. Good luck to everyone writing! I've been using EK review books for studying, EK 1001 physics and 101 verbal, and then the aamc 3-11 tests. Hope its enough!

I just finished second year though, so I definitely have time to write it again if I don't get 30+!

Anyone else writing in Halifax?

I have a friend writing on June 16th!

Good luck to all of you. As I have posted elsewhere, no matter how you prepared, just be confident. The MCAT is not a test of knowledge as it is of strategy and thinking.

My 2 cents: be hydrated, avoid heavy carbs prior (e.g. donuts), get a good night's sleep 2 nights before and the night before, take deep breaths, and be confident.

As for anyone stressing out at this point about not having prepared enough, take it from someone who spent 2 weeks on the sciences and did verbal once to thrice a week for a 2 months: it is totally possible to get the ON cutoffs. And I'm not even some naturally smart person.

Oh, and EK kicks butt! Salty the Kracker still makes me smile!

Soooo....

wrote today in Edmonton. It was such a mess, apparently it was their first time doing a full administration of the MCAT. I got there at 7AM and literally did not sit down to begin writing until quarter after ten.

I know you're supposed to be prepared for anything BUT I was not prepared for that, it totally threw me off.

Looks like I'll be rewriting later this summer. :(

What location did you write at? I will be at the capilano mall location in July!

Sorry it was so awful for you. :(

Capilano too! I'm sure it will be better for you, like I said it was the staff's first go at it. They took minimum 10 minutes to check each person in (there was 23 of us I think), and they didn't begin checking people in until 10 to eight.

My advice: get there early! They do it first come first serve there. I was the 2nd person there at 7AM but there was some mixup with the name on my ID matching the name they had at the testing center (even though the confirmation email I got from the AAMC matched the name on my ID??), so I had to sit on hold with AAMC for 20 minutes. As a result, I ended up like eighteenth on the list or something.

When are you writing in July? Do you think I have any chances of getting a spot on the 6th or the 16th? I really wanna write ASAP because I felt really prepared, I don't think I need more study time. I just got so anxious I could barely understand what I was reading.

I am writing on July 16th. Maybe I will see you there. :) I have no idea if there are any seats or anything left.

But if you book it for a week after that, you can see how you scored on this round. Maybe it was not as bad as you think!

Very true :D Another thing!!

The staff seemed really confused there because they told me I was NOT allowed my own earplugs (even in the original packaging), and that I WAS allowed a calculator. Of course, none of us brought calculators so we were all pretty annoyed. I'm like 99% sure that they are completely RETARDED and WRONG but just some advice... it wouldn't hurt to bring a calculator just in case they have not realized their error by the time you write. (Although I'm sure somebody reading this forum that is testing elsewhere will be sure to report this ASAP... haha).

I ended up arguing about the earplug thing until they let me take them in though.

Just to add to that Capilano Mall situation.....

Worst experience ever, drove up the day before to make sure to get comfortable. Studied 3 months in advance, and capilano happens...........

I get to the center at 1:30 PM for the 2 PM exam...... 30 minutes past after 2 PM, that is fine, since it takes a little longer to get the finger print, photos taken and everything..

1 hour pass. One girl goes in for the test, her computer crashes, shes comes back and waits. 1 hr and 30 minutes pass, people start cheering whenever someone gets admitted in to the test room. Some janitors show up to fix one of the rooms... when it gets fixed, it was already 4 PM, and seats were slowly filling up.

I started to write my exam at 4:30 PM, and finished around 9:40 PM. Waiting for 2 hours and a half to start the exam while being extremely nervous and under the weather blows chunks. Seriously, I did not anticipate this to happen. I practiced my mock MCATS religiously, starting my tests around 2 PM, planned out my snacks and what not for refueling... and then this damn thing happens... the room was packed with 17 ppl, not enough leg space to even move, only airconditioning they had was a fan.. this was much worse than what I experienced in a freaking casino last year... looks like I may have to write again at the end of the summer.. for now, i just gotta wait and see how i did and just relax for a month

EDIT: is it me or does the tests seem much harder than the practice mcats? :(

Sorry to hear about your crazy mcat!!! Mine wasn't nearly as eventful! However, I did find the VR and BS to be a little more ambiguous and difficult that the practice tests.. PS went fairly well though I think! Overall it felt pretty good, just gotta keep praying and wait to hear back now! I hope yours went better than you feel it did :)

Dude I totally feel your pain. Was just THE WORST experience ever. :( How hot was that exam room too? Probably 38 degrees is my bet.

I'm sorry to hear about all of the bad MCAT experiences! I know exactly what you mean about the temperature of the MCAT room. When I wrote mine last year the room was sooo hot that during the ps section I almost past out. and when I went to tell the girl she was too busy talking on the phone with her friend! It was a bad experience but I ended up getting the highest on the ps section so I wouldn't worry too much just yet! You never know what will happen!

It goes up tomorrow, right? Does anyone know the time they normally go up?

I think they usually come out sometime after 4 or 5 pm ET. There have been some instances where they've come out early, but they're late more often than they are early, so it'd be best to just avoid checking until the early evening.

Good luck everyone!
