Erudite
Hi everyone, I'm new here and I'd like to ask for some advice. I'm finishing my PhD this year and was thinking of applying to UofT, where my graduate studies may be more effective during the application process. I want to apply after doing some years of Postdoctoral but I'll be like 31/32 years-old then. Do you think they will take into consideration my age, and whether this will be a disadvantage for me with younger applicants?
schmitty
I don't believe age is factored in at all. If anything, your age means you should have more experiences and thus may make you a better candidate.
surpul
Age isn't factored negatively, in fact it can be used as an asset to point out the vast amount of real life experience along with work experience. There are plenty of cases of mature students going for their MD's.
KennethToronto
The only one stopping you because of your age is yourself...which is a reasonable consideration given @31-32, you won't be doing anything productive until your late 30s if you go the family medicine route. Just make sure you're ok with that. That said, I have classmates who started in their 30s. Others in the late 20s. It's rough but perfectly fine. keepontrying
KT, what do you mean it's rough?
KennethToronto
KT, what do you mean it's rough? You can come up with your own reasons why it's tough starting med school at 30 years old versus at 23 years old and they'll be just as valid as whatever I've heard/been told etc.
CD90.2
It was all good until they sat us by age in descending order for the last exam...
