UBC BIOC 300 notes/old exams

Recommended Posts

I took this course in the summer of 2008. I have old multiple choice exams, problem sets, etc.

PM me if you want them, or they'll be in the recycling bin by July 10. I just thought I would offer here before I discarded them.

I'll be willing to meet anywhere in Vancouver, or ship just the exams by canada post for free. :)

Phil 120 is easy, but you can only take it if you've taken less than 90 credits. Phil 220 is also easy. English 301 is easy. The first year computer science courses are easy. The first year astronomy courses are easy. First year Eosc courses and Eosc 326 are easy. First year German is easy. Clst 301, the medical terminology one, is easy.

Eosc 118 and pretty much the other Eosc 11x are easy. And like I mentioned Eosc 326 and the third-year level course about the planets is also easy. Clst 301's curriculum was changed but it's still pretty damn easy. I got an A+ in it just by practicing with flash cards about 2 hours a week.

If you're ESL, then depending on how comfortable you feel with technical writing, I probably wouldn't take Engl 301. Its average was 80+ in recent years

dont wanna take esoc118 because its a distance ed, U of ottawa said one can only take 1 distance ed per term in order to maintain full course load, and I already have another distance ed course in mind.

which eosc you would recommend other than 118 and 114? I dont wanna get into pure memorization tho...I really suck on memorization but I think Im good at analyisis.

have you taken biol300 or heard about it? is it ok?

FNH courses are super easy (250, 255, 355); only catch for you is that its complete memorization; however, its relatively simple compared to anat/phys. I could fit almost the entire 355 course on about 250 cue/flash cards (normal sized printing) :P

I took fnh355. It wasnt hard but not easy to get A+. I thought I memorized everything but ended up with 88%, not bad but I'd be happier with 2% higher. :P

I studied anatomy 10 times harder and got 84% (considering the class average was ~83%) T.T

I guess I should just avoid any memorization...

and btw your name is so similar to mine haha

I've already mentioned twice which other EOSC courses were easy.

I took STATS 200 instead of BIOL 300. Same material, but BIOL 300 is more focused on life sciences examples.

Sorry for that. I noticed you said 326 and "other first year courses", I wasnt sure if all first year courses are all OK. :P

I guess I'll go with astronomy courses. First year courses cant be too bad, can they?

I took astro 101 with Brett Gladman in my first year. I don't remember many details as it was quite a while ago but there was a bit of everything involved: memorization, concepts and equations. Also lots of work involved with the labs - although the software was cool (can predict star positions anytime in the present/future). In the end it was one of the best courses I took because astronomy is one of my hidden passions and as a bonus I did well in it, too :)

My friend however, who was in "enriched" physics, hated the 102 course. Never took it myself but apparently it was a lot of work and 102 wasn't as interesting as I had made 101 sound to him.

Thanks! Thats very helpful!

Seems like the prof is a really cool guy and I am pretty interesting in the course too. Did you find it hard to get like A+? I'm kinda stressed on my GPA since its going to be my last year. I really need to get as many as A+ as I could. But I dont wanna take courses that I would not enjoy at all just for that A+ either...

Yeah Gladman was really cool, both in his achievements and teaching.

It definitely wasn't easy but I think getting an A+ is doable if you keep up with the work. I'm sure you're not the type to slack off, and since you say the subject interests you, you'll probably do well.

Good luck!
