Possible Loop hole for the english requirement

Recommended Posts

As to why i am looking for an alternative to taking english in university is that I know i probably wont do well in it as I have never enjoyed english courses in the past.

At my highschool there was such a lack of choices and freedom in the ENG4U, grade 12 english. I would much rather read some classic books by charles ****ens, Machiavelli, herman melville but instead I am stuck reading some author's story about a child's life struggle.

I even approached her to choose my own book to read for my english project, I forgot what I choose but it was by Agatha Christie.

My inner conspiracy theory is that the english department or teacher must of got some kind of endorsement deal from the publisher to have their book discussed in class.

Some schools like Alberta consider AP English to be a half credit. Some schools like UBC don't consider AP courses as part of the minimum 90 credits needed to apply, but do have a score you need to obtain to fulfill pre-req requirements. You need to check with the individual schools.

Depending on what university you're looking at, you might be able to take a course that specifically looks at the classics. I don't know if they still have the course, but at the UofA in first year I took ENGL 114 (6 credits). It was "A history of literature in the English language". It was such an awesome course- great books/plays/poems and such interesting discussions about them. Look through your uni's calendar and see if you can find something like that that would interest you. And trust me, University English is nothing like high school English.

i doupt this will work, just take english for one year and see how it goes.. it wont be that bad.. i had a 49% in my grade 10 ISP essay... I still did fine in university english. really dont be so scared, the english majors are weaker then us..

after taking them, I see english coruses as bird courses.. they provide some peace from all the memorization

This. Try to find an English course that is of interest to you. I took Children's Literature as one of my English courses - not because it was supposed to be easy, but because I LOVED many of the books that they covered in the course, having read and re-read them many, many times through my childhood.

I also took a Science Fiction course as my second English course. Again, I've read sci-fi my whole life, and so the subject matter was of interest to me.

I had a friend at U of A take something called "Literary Computing" that sounded really cool when she explained it.

Some medical schools will also accept one writing course and one English language course as pre-requisites. If writing is more your style, you could see if that applies to the schools you are most likely to apply to.

I believe you meant to say English majors are weaker THAN us...

Nice try though.

You have heard enough about the dos and don'ts of a new parent; about how to feed, clothe and handle a newborn baby. You are excited, anxious and nervous ….. But along with these feelings you are wondering if you can handle the expenses of delivery and all that follows. With a simple hospitalization costing thousands of rupees, you are worried that a caesarian delivery will certainly increase your expenses. With all these concerns you think of health insurance and wonder if it covers maternity expenses. Here is all you wanted to know about Maternity benefit in health insurance policies.

A "loophole" would be taking it in the Summer so it doesn't count towards GPA.

Of course, some schools do consider those courses towards GPA, so you still need to investigate.

which school requires a 1.0 in english but dont count if it is taken. i am pretty sure there is none like that

I'm pretty sure all schools in Ontario except McMaster (not sure about NOSM) don't count courses taking during the summer in your cGPA/wGPA. Lots of people take advantage of this to get courses like Orgo out of the way
