Status as unclassified student

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, just a question about unclassified student status at UBC. I graduated this year and I will be applying this cycle. Meanwhile, I was thinking of taking some classes next school yr as an unclassified student. I'm wondering if that will affect my application in any way? I know in the "Other Info" section, there's a question asking whether you'll be starting a new program during this application cycle, so I was just wondering what the impact to my application will be. Thanks!

It wouldn't affect your application for this cycle, but if you applied again, it depends on why you did unclassified studies. If you were doing a couple courses to get some prereqs met for other programs ( OT, PT, grad studies, etc) then no. But it states on the admissions website that students that enroll in unclassified studies for the purpose of improving their GPA rarely gain admission.

Right, so it would not influence this years application at all.

Unclassified studies are not recommended for those trying to take more courses in order to increase their GPA. So the hypothetical situation would be if you took a year or two of random classes or unclassified studies and improved your GPA enough to get an interview, they would probably look at this post interview as they state that those who do this rarely gain admission.
