Asta
I started my application today. So exciting! I am quite enthusiastic about U of A. Did anyone else start their applications today?

T.O.Student.
I'm too floored by U of C's drastic admission requirement changes to really focus on U of A... Anyone think that U of A is going to follow suit within the next year?
scrambledsonnet
Does anyone know how U of A converts percent scores to GPA?
zxcv
No one knows for sure. But I speculate: http://www.uofaweb.ualberta.ca/9to4/nav02.cfm?nav02=1030&nav01=140 your percent grades will fall into those.
zxcv
Will UofA follow UofC? I don't think, for the most part. UofA is big on GPA. In the interview presentations they sent, they were emphasizing how important GPA is and how it is the best predicator of medical school and clerkship performance. Their application appears to be slightly different from Calgary (actually I felt it was quite different, given the character limitations, the 5 categories, and I loved it...). The way they mark their reference letters, and the emphasis is also different (i think, split between 2.5 subjective and 2.5 objective measured by a numerical score that the refree gives). IMO, the only change you can expect is the 20% for the MCAT (15 for the 3 sections and 5 for WS), and even that may take some time. Also the way UofA does MMI is radically different from UofC. So all of us in Alberta should be elated to have two schools with two different systems.
Mithril
I had a 3.90 on my OMSAS last year and Alberta gave me a 4.0. They have some wonky grading scheme.
zxcv
I had a 3.90 on my OMSAS last year and Alberta gave me a 4.0. They have some wonky grading scheme. At OMSAS an A=3.9 whereas UofA an A= 4.0. That could be one reason. However, there is speculation that bonus marks are awarded for minors, specific degrees (engineering), etc.
