Urgent, course problem

Recommended Posts

Hello, I just need some clarification. I know that UWO has 3/5 rule in terms of course selection and U of T kind of have the same policy but not a solid one. I was granted credits for some courses I took before and I'll be in the 2nd year. However, the credits given are kind of useless when it comes to prerequisite. I can't take 2nd year biology subject and 2nd year chem subjects without having to get all the first year subjects now. So, I am only taking 10% or 1/5 at my year level, the 90% are all first year courses. Now, I know that UWO has last 2 year rule but will this jeopardize my application?? And how about for UofT?

I just need some reassurance. I'm really sorry.

I believe your second year will not be counted towards UWO, but I think it still counts for UofT since they didn't explicitly speak about second year on their website. UofT is more concerned with 3rd and 4th years. Note that you cannot apply to UWO until your 4th year anyway, so you still have your 3rd year when calculating GPA for UWO. Hopefully you did well in your 1st year too.

I won't apply until I am done 4th year. My first year will just show up as credit because I took it in another country. I'm also very confused right now, I read some posts saying UofT only allows 6 first year level courses, I'm not sure if it's the med program or their undergraduate. Also, would I still be eligible in the weighting formula of UofT? (dropping 3 lowest full year courses etc)

Yes the 6 100-level courses are for your cGPA calculations towards your UofT degree. Any 100-level credits taken beyond the 6th will not be counted towards your cGPA, but will count towards your degree requirement. As long as you have fulfilled the 3/5 300-level or higher courses during your 3rd and 4th year, this will still allow you to apply for ALL medical schools.

If I have not mistaken, most Canadian Med schools will not look at your credits done overseas. Whether or not the weighting formula applies, I highly recommend that you email them individually as this is more like a "privilege" rather than an "entitlement" given to students who have diligently taken full course loads during their undergrad years.
