2Blonde4Med
It appears one is unable to enter grades received for courses taken at a college. Does anyone have experience with this? How do you enter them? Do they count? I did the first 2 years of my degree in a university tranfer program at the local college so these grades are two thirds of my GPA. I've done some college courses and I've been through the OMSAS application a few times. You have to enter the courses (as you've stated), but there is no place to enter your grades. You do have to send these transcripts though, but I'm not sure if anyone actually looks at them for the grades to "count". My guess would be no - Nobody looks at them. taiga gal
i think u can apply, if u have a degree the school may only count your uni courses for GPA. for NOSM they state that u need at least one full year of uni courses, and that is the gpa they will accept. how is your gpa from your uni courses only? u should call the admissions offices... ylisztruusi
Hi, so what what the consensus? I am looking at applying to the Ontario schools as well. Do they look unfavorably towards an application with a gpa consisting of college grades? I did my first 2 years at a community college (third year at unversity) so it would be dissapointing if I could not get credit for this.. especially given my average is 91.5%
jojoluvsu2
"Course details are not recorded for graduate school, college programs and/or courses, diploma or certificate courses, or for courses taken at institutions outside Canada or the US" - From the OMSAS "HELP" pop-up window when filling in post secondary information. College courses don't count towards your GPA. Not sure if they would count as prerequisites. I'm not sure how a combined college/university degree works as far as eligibility (how many years need to be at university level in order to count as a degree etc...). You'd probably want to consult the individal school websites, or contact the admissions offices directly.
ylisztruusi
Yes, I've found out different schools have different policies regarding pre-req credit. For example Ottawa requires all pre-req work to be done at a university. UofT on the other hand will recognize work done at a community college as long as the university you are currently attending recognizes the college courses as legitimate UT transfer courses.. I think it is somewhat sly of OMSAS and the universities to not make these pre-req requirements more explictly clear. I think they would rather collect your application money and disqualify your appplication.
CTran
"The following courses of study are not normally included in the OMSAS GPA: naturopathic and chiropractic medicine, consecutive Bachelor of Education programs, college courses (even if transfer credit is granted), challenge for credit courses, diploma or certificate programs, graduate courses, and undergraduate courses taken as part of a graduate program."
