umliux
Hi everyone, I am a new member in this forum from U of Manitoba. Juz wondering for the two MCAT preparation courses, which is better? more effective and more helpful? is the online course in princeton review for MCAT effective comparing to the classroom version? Thanks
umliux
I wanted to add afew more to the list to compare: prep101, Kaplan, oxfordseminars For those who have taken courses with any of these org, could you please tell me about how effective you think their courses are esp. for VR and essay? thank you so much
Hockey_whiz
i didnt take a course, but most people say TPR is the best course out there, the hyperlearning books are great.
medhopeful64
taking prep 101 and I think they're pretty good. They use the Examkracker books, so wrt to verbal, EK is the best (for most people anyways). their schedules are also very flexible, and I like their classroom companion workbooks (basically a summary of the EK books plus additional details needed). pm me for more info
vanillabear
It depends. If you have taken the courses previously (physics, biology, organic chem, general chem, some biochemistry even) then go for the ExamKrackers. It'll be more of a review and they assume you have prior knowledge. If not, go for TPR. They are very detailed and lay a pretty solid foundation. Their practice material is great too! Alternatively, you can do EK and then supplement with TPR or any other company for specific subjects.
umliux
The hyperlearning books is the course companion book with TPR right?

obi
... i don't want to sound like a d!ck but i refuse to answer this question only for the fact that it literally has been discussed to death. In the past couple of months we've had like 3 or 4 new threads alone... a quick google search or forum search will answer all of your questions and then some. In short though, are you in science UG? Take kaplan and use EK101 verbal.
sirop
The TPR material is great, the biology book however is OVERKILL. I just want my info, thx. I feel like screaming at the author about how I don't need to know the minute details yet, let me get into medschool first and then I shall study it with more depth. And in my opinion, the way the author writes the book seems like she tends to talk to herself. Alot.
ellorie
I liked Kaplan - their study schedule was good, the classes were quite engaging and they did a good job of highlighting high yield material. I studied from their materials only and got a 39. I did find that their writing sample instruction wasn't as good as the other sections though. I've covered books from all 4 prep companies...and TPR's BS...is...well overkill in some ways.
medhopeful64
have you taken the prep101, is it necessary? IF i just get the EK books, would it be enough? I'm taking it now, and no, its probably not necessary if you are a science major. If not, the prep course would help (any prep course, not just prep101). As someone mentioned, the EK books are better suited towards science majors who just need a refreshing on the concepts. Their classroom companions however, do supplement the EK books with additional details that helps develop a deeper understanding than using the EK books alone (but you can always buy those off someone who's taken the prep101 course )
