NotADoctor
Hey, Did anyone else notice the reminder on the admissions website saying "We do not require reference letters to be submitted for this application cycle". I find it hard to believe they wouldn't need references. I know they aren't specifically used as part of scoring the application, but it still seems odd. towel
Yes...I see that now as well. I think they must mean that we are not required to have them for Step 1. I can't imagine that they mean the 2011-2012 cycle as a whole.
war485
if they really don't need references anymore, that's gonna save me quite a bit of time and trouble, but yeah, I do find that odd as well.

towel
Bobx2010 - I think they are still required, just not for Step 1.
NotADoctor
References were never required for step one. They were only required if you received an interview. Last year they didn't use them in the scoring, and it is pretty clear from the website "We have eliminated the requirement for reference letters to be submitted as part of our application process beginning with the 2011-12 admissions cycle"
Dr.Notyet
And that explains why there was no place to input contact info for a 1st reference (although I had a place for my 2nd reference). It has now been updated on the dal online application so that has been completely removed. As for the admissions website they have updated that at least twice, now it says what bobx2010 posted. Interesting decision, I guess they feel that references were not providing anything significant in the selection of candidates. The letters used to be worth 15 pts! It definitely is more convenient for applicants and the admissions office, although it raises some other interesting issues. I'm not complaining, though! Goodbye reference letters! perigirl
strange though - does anyone else see on the Application summary page spot for Reference 1 and Reference 2? This is not applicable right?
psqu
@perigirl I saw that when Part I first became available. About a week later, when I submitted it, that section was gone.
doc2B
Reference letters were never really that useful. Most people are smart enough to ask references that will write "positive" letters rather than negative ones. Plus they all end up being generally similar. relaxer12
strange though - does anyone else see on the Application summary page spot for Reference 1 and Reference 2? This is not applicable right? I have the same problem. I have already submitted Step 1, and I am about to submit Step 2...Can anyone clarify this?
