Bowser
Hey Guys, I have a choice between Alberta or Dal. What do you guys think, I'd love to hear some opinions on this. I know very little about either school, I live much closer to Dal so that's all I have to go on so far. Thanks a bunch

umad?
Anybody??? I have to decide on Monday... The dent building at the u of a is old... So just don't prepare for the facilities to look v nice. The katz building where you spend your first 2 yrs is brand new and v nice tho. Rent in Edmonton is okay, I can hook you up wih a v nice place with 1 pharmacy roomate for 550/month. Weather can get pretty phucking cold in Edmonton, with windchill up to -43c. But it really sounds colder than it is. -20s are actually not too bad because humidity is v low there. Just for funsies, the girls at the u of a are typically hotter than the girls at ubc. The dental hygienists there are 90% 8+/10 Never went to dal.
rmorelan
are dent programs in Canada similar to medical ones - in the sense that the programs themselves are so heavily regulated to be the same educationally speaking? Or are there clearly superior educational experiences at the various locations?
Suprachiasmatic
Well, I'll give my opinion, since you need to make a decision soon. I'm only starting at Dal in the fall though. From what I understand, the UoA curriculum is much more book based in the first two years when compared to Dal. You get hands on experience in first year at Dal in the clinic, but at Alberta most of your classes are with medical students in the first two years and you won't get much clinical until 3rd year. I read this in another thread on the forum in a post made by a student there. However, I can't find it right now. Otherwise, I mean, you're going to get a good education at either school, so you can choose based on location preference and tuition costs as well. mashmashmaro
Hey so if you come to UofA, your pretty much going to be in the new buildings for the majority of clinic/classes. The new clinic is apparently pretty nice, everything is digital and electronic. From what I know, most of your classes will also be in the new med building (the rainbow colored building if you have been the campus).

Katz building is very nice and brand new. The multicolored one (Edmonton Clinic Health Academy) as of may 2011 has not been completed. It is set for completion in 2012. Also, I don't get how the U of A tuition is so low while having brand new facilites & digital labs while the UBC one is so expensive... and the u of a has to pay for heating, snow removal, putting those gravel on walkways, crack repairs, etc... yes jelly
