mcmastermed
Hi, just wanted some advice from people headed in the same direction. I moved from BC to Ontario to attend Mcmaster University, but my experience has been less than great. I'm going into second year now and would like to transfer back to BC for third year. Does anyone know how this might affect my chances for med school GPA wise? Reading similar threads, i figured you should make sure courses are transferrable to prevent repeating a year, which upon researching I found that I won't have to do. What are your opinons/thoughts? PS. if anyone has experiences about transferring to UBC third year please let me know!! their staff confused me to the point where I started looking at SFU and it seems like the most straight-forward way outta here. FT4
Transferring, especially without doing extra years, isn't looked down upon by adcoms- but always remember to keep yourself as "traditional" as possible (ie. get your degree in 3-4 years, full-time w/5 courses, etc.). Your logic is certainly not a bad idea, especially if you can bring your GPA up, which is key to your admission to med school!
McMarauder
I started my degree at uoft and went to mac after 2nd year. My suggestion to you is to transfer as soon as possible because after first year, courses and programs start to become very different between schools, and it's harder to get credits that are exactly equivalent. As a matter of fact, even though I was in my third year of university studies, I had to take mainly 2nd year courses when I got to mcmaster. I suggest that you try to get UBC to assess your credits ASAP/NOW to get an idea of what will transfer over and count towards the program that you're interested in there. Chances are, you will be set behind. Transferring was a huge hassle and cost me a whole year.. I don't even know if it was worth the move anymore. I do know people who had not-so-great first year experiences at Mac, but as the years went on, things got a lot better for them and they're glad to have Mac as their alma mater.
