Fresh new grad salary

Recommended Posts

I know dentist income varies greatly after many years of practice, but I'm more interested to know what salary range do typical new graduates make, as we all know paying back student debt is going to be a major concern for most of us. Is it too unrealistic to expect a 100,000 income in your first year of practice in today's market?

It also depends on your geographical area. If you follow the masses and stay in a big city, your salary will be much less. That been said, 100K+ is possible in a big city in your first year. In a rural or smaller town, it's kinda sad if that's the best you could do.

Adversary - You have been practicing for a couple of years now so would you happen to know what a few of your colleagues are making out in rural areas? Is it worth the move or do you simply make 20 - 30 k more for all of that trouble? I'm thinking up north (Williams Lake/Quesnel or Prince George/Terrace, not so much Yukon lol).

Maybe I'm just being anal but I guess you realize that most dentists don't earn a salary, but rather a percentage of production. It would be so hard to predict what anyone will make year 1. A range of $60K-$150K is what I've seen. Geography and patient demographics are king.

I guess I'm more interested to know what do the majority of the graduating class lie in that range. I sure hope that $60k case is a rare outlier..
