JB.
I have a fair bit of ECs that show leadership skills; in all my ECs, I'm either "running the show" or on my way to and I just need a break. I have an opportunity to volunteer at a therapeutic riding barn. I used to teach TR and have managed facilities, but I am really wanting to go in and muck stalls and groom horses. Would that kind of EC be frowned upon? Don't get me wrong, I am a go-getter and I like to lead, but I just do so much of that that I would really like to be the low man on the totem pole for once and take a breather doing something I really love. I know it's something anyone can do and doesn't take much skill, but picking up manure relaxes me!
OIC
I don't think you have anything to worry about here. Since you have a considerable number of activities in which you took a leadership role I think you should just do what you want and will enjoy. Funny you ask this because a fair number of my ECs were also in a leadership role and during one of my interviews I was specifically asked to describe a time I let someone else take the lead and relegated myself to the back seat. JB.
Thanks guys! OIC, I never thought of it that way; showing that you can take a step back is a good thing too, eh?
future_doc
Unfortunately, my schedule did not permit me to volunteer for therapeutic riding for kids with severe motor dsyfunction. I would have loved to participate. And, in addition to using one's expertise, it would have been a fun opportunity to help the kids have fun, gain in confidence and demonstrate empathy, compassion and collaboration. Interesting.
OIC
Thanks guys! OIC, I never thought of it that way; showing that you can take a step back is a good thing too, eh? Yea seems like it certainly can be. I didn't expect that question to come up but judging from the fact that TOK had it too I guess its not all that rare!
