Curi0user
Does anyone know a goos hospital to work at? Preferably something small so I can get a great reference letter. I hate wasting my time in the huge hospitals that sometimes dont even write reference letters at all- and if they do, its generic stuff they probably dont mean. Curi0user
Homewood is excellent, but it's not in Toronto A friend of mine is volunteering right now in the day surgery dept at Mt. Sinai. Not super exciting, but there's a good amount of patient contact and apparently every few months they arrange a surgery viewing for the volunteers, and it sounds like they treat the volunteers well! Another option would be to do research in a hospital setting. If this is something you are interested in, and you wouldn't mind doing something in neuro, I can try to give you some direction...I want my fellow Yorkies to succeed Surgery viewing!??? aaaahhh i want in!! haha I'm open to anything! I really am interested in a whole bunch of stuff, preferably something a little home-y in atmosphere, that way I can actually get close to someone and they can write me an amazing reference letter lol. And aw how sweet of you lol. I appreciate it!

Curi0user
I'll send you a PM tomorrow with details- off to bed now As for a hospital volunteer position where you can get a strong reference, try to find an area where you are working closely with a particular staff member (not in admin). Recreation therapy, arts and crafts, are good ones. It doesn't seem like most positions are very good though...I feel kind of sorry for the volunteers at the Toronto hospital I'm at (the one where the elevator got stuck, lol), they just kind of walk around and don't seem to be doing much. great!! And thats exactly what i'm doing now..walking around... i only recently started trying my butt off to really try and talk to the patients now but thats mainly because my feet just killed for literally walking with no breaks for 3 hours. Curi0user
To those PMing me- the research offer was sort of for the OP only...I don't have THAT many connections I've been forgotten. </
taiga gal
i worked at the Sunnybrook Veteran's Hospital for my first year nursing practicum. i had a chance to see a lot of the volunteer programs in action. wow! they have a lot going on, pet therapy, massage, art, gardening, music, and a really nice grounds for the Vets to enjoy. also a great physio gym. maybe u, (or anyone) could contact them. might be easier to access them then the greater Sunnybrook. there is an entire building for patients with dementia too ('Dorothy___ House) check out their website
