jun921201
Hey everyone. I will be going into BMSc 2nd year this upcoming September. I need some advice regarding my course selection. Due to the time schedule of my electives (Japanese and Pharm 2060), I was forced to take Bio 2290 and Stats 2244 both in first semester. Is this a good idea? I heard that from others both courses have heavy amount of course load so most students tend to split them off in to two different semesters. Are there anyone who took the courses in same semester? Like most of my peers, I am preparing for MCAT. I understand that physiology is a big aspect of the test. So I am considering of switching my Japanese(full year course) and take Physiology 2130(full year course). But then again...the course load of BMSc students for 2nd year a no joke...and I heard it Physio 2130 will be very interesting, but at the same time quite challenging. Advices? If I do take the physio 2130, then I will have to take a first semester elective. Are there any recommendations? Thanks in advance
aravis
The course load isn't really that horrendous though there is a huge amount of new material compared to first year. From what I know, physio 2130 and pharm 2060 are fairly straightforward and simple courses that you can do very well on if you put in the effort. As for which elective to take, browse the forums a bit and I'm sure you'll come up with pretty comprehensive list. I heard that first year compsci and earthsci electives aren't bad. Thanks in advance I knew a few people in my 2290 class that had stats the same semester. They seemed sleep deprived as hell, and were constantly complaining about the labs/quizzes/exams. That said, I never took biostats in second year, so I can't really tell you how difficult it will be to manage alongside 2290. 2290 itself was a lot of tiny assignments/quizzes that people tend to procrastinate on because they seem to be short/easy work, but the problem is that all the little things end up piling up. Gray unit was dreaded by almost everyone, and was a decent amount of work. Personally, I did everything the night before it was due for her section and did well. Other people seemed to struggle though. It may have been because of my practice writing lab writeups for biology 2601a (which had terrible write ups with excessively picky TA's marking them - some of which contradicted one another in marking/expectations). So, if anything, I'd recommend picking a 2290 lab section in which you'll get Gray unit over with first. That way, you don't end up writing a lab report the night before an exam. Can't tell you much about biostats except to TRY moving it to second term, although I'm sure both are manageable in the same term provided you work hard enough and keep up with everything. As for physiology 2130, it's not too tough. The only really hard part is waking up for 8:30 am classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and studying for the final exam because there is so much information. Besides that, it is a very informative class and you learn a lot of things. It's great prep for physiology 3120 and seems like it'd be good for the MCAT. It was one of my favourite classes by far. cdawso23
Thanks guys. Really big help For physiology 2130, are the midterms are non-cumulative but the final is? And I was wondering about the class averages last year. I took 2130 last year and I really didn't think it was a particularly difficult course. The only cumulative exam was the final. I'm not sure what the average was but I'd guess pretty high. I know for one exam the average was in the mid-80s and I don't think the others were far behind that. Generally, the exams were not very difficult and the course was enjoyable. Also, I'm not sure if the schedule is the same this year but last year the first year kinesiology physiology lectures were 930-1030 (right after the 2nd yar phys) and EXACTLY the same. I even verified this with Anita Woods, the course coordinator. So if you'd like to sleep in an extra hour, the option is there.

Then i might attend few of those lectures if i sleep in.... thanks for the info!
raptors_7
Hi I'm planning on taking physiology 2130, but I'm debating whether to take it online or in class. Do American/Canadian dental schools not count online courses? If they do count phys 2130 online, then I would much rather do it that way. I've heard of some universities that dont count online courses towards your gpa.. but I just want to know what the majority of dental schools do.. if you know. From what I heard, schools do count online courses. They can't tell if you took an in-class or online course on your transcript. But if u took a course, either in-class or online in the summer, then I think 'most' schools don't count that grade, but do count it as you have taken that course. I'm actually deciding between taking physio 2130 online or in class too lol...
tb123
I found the online section to be very easy, and you have all the info from the beginning, so you can work at your own pace, when you don't have exams for other classes. The quizzes and midterms are jokes, and the final is a lot of info but fair. I would definitely recommend the online section. Plus no 830 class is always a plus
