I feel as if since I'm applying for entry after 3rd year, I should be able to include stuff 4 years back since that's what someone applying for entry DURING their 4th year would be able to do... The point is that these activities shouldn't be short stints or things that don't show who you are as a person and what you're capable of. Your ECs should be substantial.
