jojoluvsu2
I might be overthinking it at this point, but what's your oppinion on using a more conversational tone and using contractions versus a more formal tone? I.E. Knowing I wouldn't be competitive against the better athletes, I set personal goals to reach in each leg of the race. vs. Knowing I would not be competitive... shikimate
I doubt it makes a huge difference, but a more formal tone is probably better. If you are hitting the character limit then contractions are useful. Don't overthink too much about this.

taiga gal
try rewording and cutting out what is not necessary. that said i did use contractions when i had to...i guess i should go back and check it out again!
medtech
I don't see a problem with using contractions because I think the reason you shouldn't use them is because it make it less formal. Since med school applications are about as formal as you get I think the person reading it would cut you some slack. Trying rewording the statements are much worse in my opinion because you want to be as clear as possible on these things
