Competitive GPA IP?

Recommended Posts

Im applying for this year and just wanted to double check and get someones opinion on if my GPA is enough to apply to dal.

My last two years GPA was:

Year 4: 3.47 out of 4.3

Year 5: 4.00 out of 4.3

If you take the average of GPA 4 and GPA 5 = 3.74 out of 4.3

Regardless of my 4th year GPA being low but above the IP cut off.. would my total of 3.74 be good enough?

I am a Nova Scotia Resident.

Bluntly, your GPA won't stand out among the applicants, but is certainly enough to apply. You will have to make up points in the other areas of the application. Do yourself a favour and look up the OMSAS GPA conversion table, and calculate your OMSAS GPA (out of 4.0). GPA reported out of 4.3 is meaningless to these forums and to medical schools. The median GPA of those accepted is 3.8/4.0.

ok using the chart :http://www.ouac.on.ca/docs/omsas/c_omsas_b.pdf

i converted all my marks to OMSAS 4.0 scale and came up with the marks:

Year 4: 3.37 out of 4.0

Year 5: 3.92 out of 4.0

Average of Year 4 and Year 5 GPA: 3.65 out of 4.0

Hopefully I used the chart right... any ideas on my new calculated GPA?

Well on the site it says the median gpa of accepted applicants is 3.8, which you are a bit under...but remember at Dal it seems that GPA plays only a minor role in the whole pic. if you have good ec's and can write a decent essay you probably have a great chance! great 5th year gpa btw!

Relax. Its not going to get you a lot of points, but it's not a high point area. As long as you meet the cut-off you have a chance. The important areas are your supplemental and your interview. But that said I your GPA is on the lower end of the average perhaps your MCAT score will make up for it. If not this year it's easier to rewrite the MCAT than do another year or 2 of school.
