transferring medical schools

i was just wondering if anyone has heard of students trasnferring in between medical schools in Canada? (i.e., being at one Canadian medical school and then going to another?)

a classmate of mine transferred to a different school after second year, so yes, it can be done. i think canadian med schools only accept transfers between second and third year, so if you time it right and there are spaces in the school you want to switch to, you might have a shot.

Most common reason for approved transfers seems to be that someone wants to be closer to their spouse/fiance. And its almost always between 2nd and 3rd yr.

Yeah, it can be done but you need a really good reason. One reason I heard cited was if your spouse was in the military and was posted in a different province.

Never heard of someone transfering med school here in QC. I think it's not even possible since curricula and teaching activities are very different from one school to another.

But that's the thing, we're almost always apart from our husbands... or at least I am. I'm happy he's at least posted in the same province now and we can see each other most weekends. It's very frustrating to live a somewhat seperate life from your significant other- especially when we're looking down the barrel of the real possibility of four years of med school apart. Such is life. We both knew that these wouldn't be easy careers to balance when we started.

I would imagine not because schools typically don't have matching curricula and blocks are not spaced out the same between schools. Give it a year and then make a serious effort.

I have heard people transferring schools in USA but never heard of one in Canada

Incompatible curriculum Calgary is 3 years, UofA is 4.
